James Woelfel is Principal of J.G. Woelfel & Associates (www.jgwoelfel.com), and a third-generation tile contractor as President of Artcraft Granite, Marble and Tile Company (www.artcraftgmt.com) in Mesa, Arizona.

James is a steadfast advocate for installation standards and proper methods. Throughout his more than three decades in the tile and stone industry, he has been an unwavering advocate for the professional tile contractor and the training and education required to grow with an evolving industry.

His technical acumen is evidenced through his role as Chairman of the prestigious NTCA Technical Committee, a role he has held since 2007. He is one of only a few tile contractors in the United States to sit on the Tile Council of North America (TCNA) Handbook Committee for Tile Installation and the ANSI ASC 108 Committee for ceramic tile installation. In 2016, he became the only tile contractor in the world to be invited and speak at the World Congress of Ceramic Tile Quality, Qualicer, in Castellon, Spain.

As a tile consultant, James performs installation inspections, forensic deconstructions, preconstruction quality control, installation oversight, and expert testimony. His clients include architects, general contractors, tile contractors, tile manufacturers, owners, insurance companies, law firms and a variety of others who seek technical expertise in tile and stone installation.

James is honored to have earned the distinction “Tile Person of the Year” in 2011 for his work developing the stone tile installation guide as part of the NTCA Handbook. He was recognized with the NTCA's prestigious “Ring of Honor” for contributions to the NTCA and the Tile Industry in October 2019.
